The name Barlow is thought to have originated with the knife producer in Sheffield who began exporting this knife to North America around 1800. The modern Barlow Prime features a short bolster, elongated ricasso (the unsharpened length of blade just above the handle of a knife) and a slipjoint secured with a 90-degree lock-in when opening or closing the blade.
