Domaine Sebastien Magnien Meursault 'Les Meix Chavaux'
The young and talented Sebastien Magnien is highly spoken of by Burgundy connoisseurs, as his wines represent some of the finest values coming out of the Cote de Beaune. He's the 4th generation of his family to make wines for his family's estate, and he trained well for the job. After gaining experience at Domaine Rossignol in Gevrey and Olivier Leflaive in Puligny, Sebastien headed to California where he worked at Hartford Court. Today, he calls Meursault home, and he tends to all of the duties of the family winery. From a small, 1-acre vineyard planted in clay and limestone, this is exactly what Meursault is supposed to smell and taste like. Fermented and aged in French oak (25% new), it is a wine that requires patience. Let it come up in temperature and give it plenty of air, and you'll be met by a sublime bottle of Chardonnay. Top notes of spiced apple, hazelnut, flint, and citrus are all offered up on a weighty yet finely balanced palate.
