Our elders taught us to observe the moana like we observe each other: with patience, with reverence, with stillness.That’s where the name Aiō comes from. To me, aiō means peace—but not silence. It’s the steady calm that lives beneath the swell. It’s knowing your place in the canoe, syncing your rhythm with your crew, and trusting that even when the ocean rises, you don’t have to fight it. You move with it. In this piece, I captured that sacred balance: the sunlit sea rising in golden swells, and the outrigger canoe carving through it—unshaken, united, aware.It’s more than a scene. It’s a way of being. Painted in warm acrylics on a 16" x 20" canvas, Aiō – Swell is a reminder that peace isn’t the absence of movement.
