Ancient Punalu‘u was inspired by the artwork of Herb Kawainui Kane. Imagining the beauty of the southern coast of the Big Island as ancient navigators approached it's majestic black sand beach of Punalu‘u in Ka‘u, Hawai‘i, this piece gives a glimpse into the vast open fields of sandalwood and koa trees in the forests of Ka‘u, along with the untouched beach and fresh water ponds that gently feed into the ocean.
