Acacia saligna is a perennial evergreen shrub-like tree that belongs to the legume family, Fabaceae. Acacia saligna is native to Australia and is commonly called coojong. The plant grows up to between 7 and 20 feet tall with smooth gray bark. The plant has modified leaf stems (phyllodes) that are flattened in place of true leaves. The phyllodes have nectar glands at the base where they connect to the stem. Flowers are bright yellow, sphere-shaped, and bloom in spring. A. saligna has multipurpose use as animal fodder, mulch, windbreak, firewood, and as an ornamental crop. The plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and in well-draining soils.
