Mammillaria bocasana Seeds - Powder Puff Pincushion

Mammillaria bocasana, commonly known as the powder puff pincushion, is a cactus plant belonging to the Cactaceae family. M. bocasana is native to northern and central Mexico where it is found growing in wall sides and volcanic rock. Mammillaria bocasana is a small, globose cactus that typically grows up to 6 inches in height and 1 to 2 inches in diameter. The stem of the plant is green to blue-green in color and is covered in short bristle-like radial spines. Longer yellow to brown central spines are hooked at the tip to defend the stem. M. bocasana blooms in the summer time with creamy yellow flowers emerging from the apex that measure no more than a half inch in diameter. M. bocasana is grown as an ornamental plant for its small size and showy flowers. Mammillaria bocasana grows best in full sun to partial shade while sitting in well-draining soils. Water the plant adequately during summer and keep dry during winter as it is prone to rot. It is a drought-tolerant species and can tole
