Mammillaria matudae, commonly known as thumb cactus, is a medium sized columnar cactus plant in the Cactaceae family. M. matudae is native to Mexico and southwestern California. The main stems branch basally and typically grow up to 10 inches in height and 1 to 2 inches in diameter. The stem also has a bright green epidermis that is covered in short white spines. Mammillaria matudae blooms in spring with bright pink to purple flowers emerging in a ring around the apex of the stem. M. matudae is grown as an ornamental plant for its manageable size and unique flowering formation.  Mammillaria matudae grows best in full sun to partial shade while sitting in well-draining soils.
