Mammillaria meiacantha, commonly called the little pincushion cactus, is a low growing plant in the cactus family, Cactaceae. M. meiacantha is native to the southern United States and throughout Mexico. The stem has protruding tubercles and sharp spines that emerge from each tip. Mammillaria meiacantha is a small to medium sized cactus that typically grows up to 6 inches in diameter and 2 to 3 inches in height. The stem of the plant is bright green in color and is covered in short gray spines. M. centricirrha blooms in mid spring with cream colored flowers that have dull purple to pink mid veins on each petal. Each flower measures no more than a half inch in diameter. M. meiacantha is grown as an ornamental plant for its small size and showy flowers. Mammillaria meiacantha grows best in full sun to partial shade while sitting in well-draining soils. Water the plant adequately during summer and keep dry during winter as it is prone to rot. It is a drought-tolerant species and can tolera
