Early Tommy Singer Belt With Chip Inlay Waterbirds
This is one of those pieces filled with nostalgia. Put this belt on, and it takes you back to an bygone era. In fact, this style of vintage Navajo chip inlay jewelry is having a renaissance right now as it's a cool new look to collectors who weren't alive during its original 1970's heyday. This eye catching chip inlay belt was handmade by the originator of the style, Navajo jeweler Tommy Singer. It's an early piece by Singer, and each silver concho features two inlaid waterbirds of turquoise and coral, bodies elegantly curving to form one of his most beloved motifs. In the center of the waterbirds is a teepee. Star, moon and mountain stamps in the silver complete Singer's design. The silver inlay belt is heavy and of much better quality than some of the later pieces of chip inlay. There are eight rectangular conchos plus the buckle. Each measures 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" and the conchos attach to the vintage leather belt strap with traditional copper loops. The piece has a wonderful patina that
