These were consumed by the sisters because no meat was allowed in the convent.In 1890, Pastry chef Lasne whose shop was in the Paris financial district "la Bourse" put a new spin on this small cake by giving it the shape of gold bar, since most of his clientele were financers who wanted a small cake that would need only two fingers to eat.
