Chinese White and Black Jade Gourd Shape Toggle/Pendant Late Qing/Republic
A dense, heavy black and white jade toggle in the shape of a gourd plant with vines and fruit. The lighter jade has a greyish-brown cast with lighter colored inclusions. The “black” skin is a matrix of darker and lighter brown, when viewed under magnification. There is a gold-colored metal ring to aid as a pendant. The carving is deep and rounded with attention to the artistry of the gourds. The jade is soft to the touch and a soft hand-polished surface. The light-colored jade contrasts beautifully with the black jade skin. MEASUREMENTS 1 ½” (3.8 cm) long x 1” (2.5 cm) wide x ½” (1.3 cm) thick. Weighs .8 oz (25 g) CONDITION There are no breaks, chips, or cracks. A nice old jade to hold in the hand or to put on a chain as a pendant for a necklace.
