Japanese Imari Bowl Foo Lion Design Circa 1900
A colorful and decorative hand painted bowl with a central foo lion design. The foo lion has a dragon and phoenix circling around him searching for the pearl of wisdom. These elements are mixed in with peonies, cranes and clouds with artemisia and coin cartouches. The bowl has a raised foot and an unglazed foot ring. The base is glazed and unmarked. The bowl was hand thrown you can see the potter’s wheel marks on the base and the body. MEASUREMENTS 8 ½” (21.6 cm) diameter x 4” (10.2 cm) tall. Weighs 2 lbs 3.2 oz (995 g) CONDITION The bowl has a chip on the inside of the rim, as well as one the foot ring. It has no other cracks, breaks, or repairs. There is wear to the central well. The bowl has customary kiln flaws, such as raised bumps and small black spots, the most notable of which is a raised white spot near the ring around the foo lion in the well. A large decorative Imari bowl to add to a collection or add richness to a home.
