Japanese Imari Lidded Bowl Cherry Blossoms and Birds 19th Century
A colorful hand painted Japanese bowl with matching lid with designs of cherry blossoms and birds. The designs on the thinly potted bowl and lid have been hand painted in a pale blue cobalt and iron red. The raised foot is unglazed while the base is glazed. The lid has a raised unglazed edge for handling. The interior of the lid is also decorated in a floral design using underglaze cobalt. The bowl has cobalt painted borders above the foot. There is a cobalt mark on the center of the lid. It has been painted over and is hard to read. MEASUREMENTS 5” (12.7 cm) diameter x 3 ¾” (9.6 cm) tall. Weighs 13.9 oz (395 g) CONDITION There is a small hairline on the lid. It starts at the edge and extends about 1”. There are no other chips, cracks, or breaks and the bowl rings true.
