Whilst my subjects are always still lives, I wanted to propose a more traditional still life, an unmistakable still life. My Caravaggio, except nothing like a Caravaggio. A table setting still life and my take on opulence. Fancy is best served with a little nasty. McDonald's in Paris, or stealing the soap from the bathrooms at Carbone. This may not be interesting but I always prefer to photograph and draw my subjects from the top down - birds-eye-view or flat lay. This makes them feel more positioned in space as they lie on the white background/paper behind them. Here, in this table setting, I have drawn them standing. Hence the tissue paper that holds the items, the tissue paper is the grounding agent that doesn’t leave the subject floating without gravity. Heaven forbid I draw the table. Nothing ever gets cropped from the composition - haven't you noticed?
