Ailsa Craig is a large, heirloom onion named after the small rock island off the coast of Scotland. Introduced in 1887 by David Murray, gardener for the Marquis of Ailsa. Plants produce consistent yields of large onions averaging 1-2lbs each and measuring up to 6" across. Lovely, golden-skinned onions have a mild, sweet flavor that works well in a variety of dishes and their large size makes them perfect for burgers and tenderloins. A very easy variety to grow from seed. Onions pictured here were started from seed in January and set out in March when plants were little more than threads. Mature onions store approximately one month. Long-day variety. 100 days from transplant. 200 seeds per packet.
