Fino Verde Basil

Fino Verde basil is a small-leaved basil variety renowned by chefs for its intense, sweet basil flavor.  Plants have a branching habit that is enhanced by pruning or harvesting, making Fino Verde an ideal basil for growing in containers on patios or in kitchen gardens.  In fact, the dense profusion of small leaves produced by the plants gives them a sophisticated appearance, almost like a topiary, and we suspect that they could be trained in such a way.  Fino Verde's small, fragrant leaves have an intensely sweet flavor with a hint of spiciness and are favored for making pesto.  This variety is reported to have a low-growing, mounded growth habit, however it was medium-statured in our hands, with an impressively fast regrowth and a strong branching tendency. We suspect this variety would be very well-suited for hydroponic systems.  Matures 60-70 days after sowing, with earlier harvests possible.  Each packet contains a minimum of 250 seeds.
