Walla Walla is an heirloom variety of onion originating from the Island of Corsica, a large Mediterranean island off the coast of Italy. The variety was originally brought to Walla Walla, Washington by French soldier, Peter Pieri, in the late 1800's. Plants produce early yields of large, tawny-skinned onions measuring up to five inches across. Interiors are white, mild and sweet with a relatively low sulfur content. An intermediate to long day variety that is very easy to grow from seed. Onions pictured here were started from seed in February and transplanted outdoors in April. Mature onions store for about one month. Any onions that cannot be used in that time can be sliced and frozen. Each packet contains a minimum of 50 seeds.
