The D'Anjou pear tree was originally referred to as the Nec Plus Meuris (Ultimate Meuris) in Europe.  The D'Anjou pear was mistakenly applied to the variety when it was introduced to the States and England. The D'Anjou pear tree originated in the early to mid-19th century, in Belgium.  Large, conical short-necked fruit, light green when ripe with some russeting. D'Anjou pear has a mild, melting white flesh with delicate aroma. Best quality after cold storage. Excellent for pear crisp.
