USDA Certified Organic The Smyrna quince was first recognized in Turkey in 1887.  It is believed that the quince fruit may have originated near the ancient city of Smyrna, Turkey.  The fruit was highly prized in ancient civilizations and has been depicted in art and literature across various cultures.  It was brought to the United States from Turkey in 1897 by R.C. Roeding. Smyrna Quince is a very large bright yellow fruit with light yellow flesh. Attractive tree (or multi- stemmed shrub) with dark green foliage and very showy blossoms in late spring. Smyrna Quince stores longer than other varieties. Quince trees require 6-8 hours of full sun are each tree can bear 100 or more pounds of fruit which ripen September through October. Use in chutneys, jams or tarts or process into Membrillo to serve with Manchego cheese. We love to roast them and serve them with ice cream in the winter. Quince fruit also makes an extraordinary hard cider. Considerations for Smyrna Quince USDA Zones: 5, 6
