USDA Certified Organic Albert Etter is credited with selecting this exceptionally late winter apple, a seedling of Wagener apple tree. Waltana apples are a medium to large, variable sized green apple with thin red striping and crisp, firm juicy flesh. The Waltana apple tree requires a very long growing season to attain it's best flavor.  The Waltana apples hang well into winter after most of the leaves have fallen. Don't despair,  the fruit improves in flavor after being hit by fall frost. Excellent for cooking and eating of hand. The Waltana apple tree was named for Albert's brother Walter and his wife.
