It was a very windy day and the ice on my lake was melting when I managed to take this photo. The ice had broken up overnight and was actually in the form of small ice cubes – something I had never seen before or since. As the wind churned the cubes of ice to and fro, I noticed this leaf lying on the surface and surrounded by red berries from the tree it had fallen from. This is my painted interpretation of that photo. As I looked at the photo, I realized how there is beauty in almost everything we encounter – we just have to be open to looking for that beauty. Here’s a Lakota proverb that captures the infinite -a and all encompassing - beauty of nature: “When you come to know nature is when you become one with our living world. One life. One world. One sky.” “
