20 SEEDS. Cucumis sativus. 65 - 75 days. Annual. Heirloom. Open-pollinated. Zones 4 - 11. Originating in New Zealand in the 1930s, this unusual variety has pale, greenish-white skinned fruit that resembles Granny Smith apples. Smooth, tender, and crisp with a bright and mild flavor. They are easy to grow and very prolific producers that perform well in containers or the garden bed.  Directly sow seeds 1" deep and 3" apart in fertile, warm soil after all danger of the last frost has passed. Plant in groups of 4 - 6 and thin to 3 or 4 strongest seedlings per group when they are 1-2" tall. Germinates in 7 - 14 days. Space groups 18 - 24" apart each way. Keep evenly moist at the soil level, especially during dry spells. Mulch well to retain moisture and deter weeds. Provide a trellis or plant along a fence line for the vines to climb. Harvest when fruits are young and tender, about 3" in diameter. Regular harvesting encourages production.
